http://www.fanplusfriend.com/c2/SP00031_02.jpg <- What I want to know, dear friends... do you do the tucks BEFORE sewing the side seams, or after, once it's a tube?

The ruffler rocks my world -- and I also bought the 3-pintuck foot for my machine, so that's my next technique to tackle.

I need frills, people. I need them. BLACK FRILLS.

Do you have a hem foot, the kind that can just roll it under and go? If so, I might need to visit and sew about four yards of edges so I can *finally* use the fabric I have for ring slings. Ronan's too big, but I might reproduce again. Or gift them.

Not as of yet, but I'm planning that to be my next foot purchase, once I master the ruffling and tucking. So... soonish.

I need to make slings so I can carry Chloe around. She gets very cold if she's not leeching my body heat.

Don't tell Rumor about this idea. She's already clingy enough.

I'd normally say pintuck first, but those should be done after the side seams. Hang the dress up for a couple of days first to let it stretch like you would before hemming.

twotone: Balls of pink and grey yarn indicate that I have a severe case of knit personality. (knitting)

I was under the impression that you do all of your sewing/tucking/ruffling etc first, and then you sew the seams and make it into a tube. It may be different with better or more professional sewing machines, though.

Huzzah for frills!

There are so many ways to do everything... I know five different ways TO ruffle, although most of them suck.

I do it after because I'm not very precise with my cutting and markings.

I am like the worst person ever, I think. I could probably make nice things if I wasn't so haphazard! I need a better ironing board, I think...

I'm just lazy. Pressing is very important for making nice things. :)

Yay!

I am scared, since I need like, what............. five? yards of tucked, trimmed, etc. skirt before I ruffle it. I'm going to go to Hancock's tomorrow and try to find some fabric.

I pintuck before...not that I've made many pintucks in my sewing life. That will probably change, now that I've discovered that one of the gifted sewing doohickeys I have is a tuck marker (this one--how's yours look?)

The ruffler is more fun than it should be...

Nah, mine is: http://www.bernina.com/product_detail-n25-i42-sEN.html Much less awesome looking!

I just need to work the math out a bit better and that ruffler and I are going to rock some serious black frills.

Silly me, I hadn't looked at the JSK before I answered--those I'd do after sewing the side seams. Things like that don't look pretty when they get trapped in seams. Vertical pintucks, though, especially of the 8-billion-tiny-tucks variety--those'd be done before seams.

I recently bought 7+ yards (@50ยข/yard) of floaty lightweight cotton in light pink with a small print of black outline candy canes with bows and a smattering of stars. My brain boggles at the candygothloli potential. Have you any suggestions?
