Plywood, brushed steel...
Sep. 21st, 2009 11:10 amAnd now, I am going to talk about home furnishings, which is one of the few things that truly makes me happy these days. (Modern design, coffee, and throwing unicorns into the sea. Yeeeeeep.)
Seriously, I was poking around the Bemz site and took their "What's your style?" quiz, and I got Playground. It's silly, but that totally made me smile, because that's EXACTLY my style -- very black and white for all the permanent fixtures, but with fun silly stuff for the furnishings! (And I love crawling all over my furniture. If I had a kitchen table, you'd totally be allowed to sit on it.) True, most of my bright color is pink, but still! I love that Marimekko pink-and-red Fandango print...
I recently discovered Door Sixteen, which is pretty much the coolest blog ever. Girl lives in an old run-down Victorian that they're turning into a modern (the style) paradise. And she has a chihuahua. I love every picture in that blog.
Her bathroom remodel (hosted as a feature on another site) is absolutely PERFECT inspiration for mine. Our bathroom is the only thing yet to be redone in our house... aside from my scheme to paint the living room floor white... and it's perfect, perfect, perfect. I wasn't sure what to do with the floor in mine, and I think I may have to go with those black penny round tiles. Oh, perfection.
I also need to paint the aforementioned floor and re-order my living room a bit. Right now I have my daybed in the living room -- previously we only had office chairs in there, which was KILLING me, fibro-wise. Having the daybed is much better, but all the natural-sleep stuff says that lounging where you sleep is a BAD idea. So I think we're going to bite the bullet here soon and get the Klippan sofa we've been eying forever: pretty comfy, cheap, and you can get multiple slipcovers for it, which is a good for me and/or the dogs. (I missed the Hot Pink one from a few years back, but the natural-cotton ones dye well, so hey!)
And if it gets destroyed, it's replaceable -- I know we all bemoan IKEA's discontinuing of beloved items, but if you stick with the Popular Series (ala Klippan and Billy) which is what I do... it's not so bad. And also I've forgiven them because they brought back my precious Ung Drill frame, which, thanks to my friend Jos grabbing me the other day, I now own. (YAY FINALLY!)
On that trip, I also learned that Trollsta is indeed beautiful, but alas, waaaaaaaay too big for my house -- there's no where I could really put it. Foo. (I could possibly get the little baby one, but that's not quite the same, and I actually already have a very pretty antique side-table I ebonized myself, in a similar-but-better style. Woo!)
So... I need to get the couch, a couple of extra slipcovers to experiment with, and another Forsytia bedspread. (I accidentally grabbed the queen when I was up there -- which is fine, as they're really nice, so it can go on the big bed. But I want a twin for myself.) And maybe some of the Glansa lamps -- they were REALLY pretty in person, but I'd like to get Cory's take on them.
This Mikkel fox wallhanging is really pretty, too. :3
And in case anyone hasn't seen it already, the IKEA song:
