Biting my black lips
Oct. 22nd, 2009 10:18 pmLest anyone think I'm easily duped by trying-too-hard pastel online marketing (or uh, MAC's marketing), I will note that I'm really just mulling over the black lipstick trend spurred by recent cute bloggy/company ads. I reaaaaaaaally don't think I -- or any of you -- need to pay $15+ for some designer black lipstick.
Despite people acting like black (or blue) lipstick is new and shocking, Manic Panic has been doing this for a billion years now, and are just about the most pigmented lippies I've ever used. And are $10.
Of course, right now is the season to GO BUY $2 WET AND WILD BLACK LIPSTICK.
I'm getting very choosy with who I give my money to, lately, particularly if there's a cooler business that actually makes an as-good-or-better product. (I'm not fond of buying medicore products just because of the "indie is hip" factor, particularly when it comes to coffee and cosmetics.) Aromaleigh makes phenomenal products, is a small woman-owned business, and has stellar customer service. (Her lip products are not that wildly colored -- yet -- but it seems like she's dabbling in more non-red shades, including mix-your-own-gloss kits.) See also: her line of eyeshadows named after eighties song lyrics. They live up to the hype!
Manic Panic is definitely an established business; I daresay few of us have met Tish or Snooky personally, but it's a matter of "by the freaks, for the freaks," no? Manic Panic Hot Hot Pink has actually replaced Special Effects Atomic Pink in my heart lately -- and I haven't even tried their Amplified formula yet.
(Look at this cute Emily Strange graphic! Awwww!)
Sooo... yes. Just so we're clear, here.
Oh man! Check out these anti-depression recession gift sets! For $25! WITH FREE US SHIPPING ON ORDERS OVER $50!
... screw it. Aside from the occasional MAC Plushglass (the plumping burning sensation is addictive!), I don't think I'm going to bother ordering from anyone other than Aromaleigh and Manic Panic. I can stock up on hairdye and glittery eyelashes, and get thirteen black roses if I feel like it.
