I feel like I want a clean slate.

I'm not sure if I'll be switching back to an all-public journal, and saying only what I would say to the world at large, but... I think I'll endeavor along those lines. (I cannot promise I might not have testosterone-fueled fits of batty diatribe, but one can only do one's best.)

Less nattering, perhaps, but more pink and more black.

CH-CH-CHANGES! Now you've done it--I'm going to have that song in my head all day now :p Have I mentioned that I've been on a major Bowie kick lately?

I have a suspicion that what you would say to the world at large is still more revealing than things some people post to their private journals.

Do you have a copy of your most recent geek-as-child thingy? I wanted to tell my friend about it (because she and I were debating that very topic) and was sad when I couldn't find it.

Uh... *hand behind head* I talk a lot... which topic was this that I was on about? My inherent dislike of fun, and preference for prunes and historic documentaries?

I feel like it might not have been a prune one? I think you'd mentioned the way baby dykes and baby goths have adult role models in a way baby geeks don't. Does that help?

Oh! Yes, yes; I stand by that. That's the gist of it: most legitimate subcultures provide role models for adult behaviour; while newbies might do the embarrassing things all teenagers do, they are generally encouraged to mature. Geeks fawn all over their subculture ("Teehee! I get the references on this comedic tee shirt! No one has EVER thought to market along these lines before!") they do not provide any system of social responsibility. And if called on this, geeks generally whinge on about how it isn't their job to help others mature. Almost any sin can be forgiven if one can talk the right trivia about Optimus Prime/Boba Fett/d20 system/whatever.
