Dawn of the Dirndl

Lo, so many months ago, [livejournal.com profile] dollsahoy had a vision: Landhausmode. Rocking the dirndl all over subculture. She has been quite passionate about her vision, despite little support from the non-Germanic world.

I shared this vision with [livejournal.com profile] vivcore, and we both agreed that dirndl are super freaking cute, and it would be awesome to make some... eventually.

NOW, THE WORLD HAS FINALLY PAID ATTENTION. Check out this post from EGL.

Now, of course, the people who have been in love with it for ages will never get their due -- and indeed, teenagers will probably sneer and figure one is just being dirndl-trendy, despite the fact the person has loved it for years -- but hey, maybe dirndl will catch on and become more accessible!

I think I need to rock some headscarves, because I look awesome in headscarves. I particularly adore this image -- that's exactly what I want to continue to look like as I age. I love it.

Think about it for a moment: sure, anyone can throw their crap on some gaunt seventeen year old and it looks "pretty," because it rides on the looks of the hip-trendy-youth-obsessed model culture. The clothes might look good in the picture, sure, but you have no idea if they'll look good In Reality.

But designing -- and modeling -- clothes on REAL women? That's a superior designer. One looks at the model and goes, "What an awesome old lady! Dude, if it looks good on her, it probably looks good on me, too!"

So who lives in Austria and wants to go clothes shopping for me?

Given the overall spread of lolimania in the real world, the dirndl-influenced aspects of that would probably not exactly be read as loliwannabes by the average person, if we act fast and start embracing Landhausmode soon. I guess I should buy that BurdaStyle dirndl pattern soon, too.

ACT NOW SUPPLIES ARE LIMITED

Nah, I meant the lolis -- who aren't, you know, exactly sane. (Perky goth has been around, oh, you know, forever, or at least since the 1980s. Black corset + crinoline is not necessarily "trying" to be loli. Particularly if the person is wearing an ankh.)
