Of tiny dogs and black lips

Oh goodness, my baby girl chihuahua is... very small. (We're probably going to go with Chloe, but I haven't completely decided yet.) Hansel definitely behaves like a chi, but his dachshund side makes him slightly more like a normal dog: a tiny bit sturdier, heavier, and more grounded. Chloe is all chihuahua. If Hansel is dainty and sometimes odd, she's dainty and odd concentrated --
She's the Chibiusa to Hansel's Sailormoon. A tiny little brat!
So we all know about MAC's Style Black collection, no? I know a few of us bought it already; I've seen
ashbet rocking it in pictures!
While I've been miserly with my pennies so far, I must admit, I'm very tempted. I've always been somewhat lazy with my makeup and NEVER do touch-ups, which black lipstick rather demands -- I could learn, of course, but I hid behind my olive complexion and perkigoth status and figured I could just avoid black lips. After all, they (almost?) never costume Abby Scuito in black lipstick, and she looks consistently adorable. Yet The Lady of Manners over at Gothic Charm School wrote up a review (and defense of the black lip) which is weakening my resolve.
To make matters even bleaker, as it were, Lime Crime has a new lipstick line with Styletto black lippie, which looks delightfully pigmented. Doe Deere wore it to a goth wedding, so it's been gothically field-tested!
I dug out some of my Wet and Wild from three Halloween seasons ago...

So what do you think? Am I finally old and cosmetically versed enough to rock the black lip? (And if so, which products should I get?)
Bonus Out-take:

Chihuahuas have no concept of personal space.

Date: 2009-10-21 04:59 pm (UTC)I think with your dark hair and facial shape that a black lip looks really cool on you! I always feel I look a bit silly with a dark lip (not nessesarily black,... bright red, I'm not brave enough either) but you look great!

Date: 2009-10-22 02:00 am (UTC)(As opposed to the standard black-with-blue glitter, which, alas, looks just awful and weird on my skintone, as far as I'm concerned. Tried it often with previous MAC releases... never happy with blue-tinted lips, ever.)
Yee! Thank you! <3 It's taken me years to get it right, finally!
I can't do the reds, either. It's too... too much! Too clown. I can (and often) wear MAC Viva Glam 4, but it's honestly not much of a bright red, just a sedate, mature, reddish burgundy. Looks great on me, but not much in the way of glam so much as "I am totally going to ace this job interview." ;9

Date: 2009-10-21 05:01 pm (UTC)However, mixing the matte black with the "Blackfire" Glimmergloss is really nice -- I don't like lip gloss in general (doesn't work with frequently having hair in my face), but the mixture of the two is sufficiently non-sticky.
I need to play with it more, I haven't gotten it out since I got home, given the onset of The Plague.
LOVE the peektures!!

Date: 2009-10-22 02:20 am (UTC)MAC's are kind of hit-or-mix, texture-wise, with me. I looooooove Plushglass. ("Oversexed" is probably the only lip color I should be wearing!) I'm not super fond of the regular Lipglass, and the Dazzleglasses are completely meh. While I'd probably shell out my Ridiculous Amount of Money for another tube of Plushglass when I run out... I don't know that I feel like playing with these new glosses.
I'm actually moving more into the tinted balms/creams for everyday; I've finally found a few mineral makeup-y ones that don't go all Kool-aid red on me. (Aromaleigh's Bete Noire is good for everyday-goth purple-y sort of looks, although I'm amazed she hasn't done any LE "really stupid subculture color" glosses or anything.)

Date: 2009-10-21 05:39 pm (UTC)I think you look really good in the black. If it's gloss I can carry it off. if it's matte... I look like a high school student. >_>

Date: 2009-10-22 01:56 am (UTC)But the lippie looked promising -- the packaging was adorable enough to tempt me into hearing what others have to say about it, wholesale or not. Although for $16 + $5 shipping?
Honestly?
I'm starting to think my $2 Halloween Black is actually pretty highly pigmented.
http://outinapout.blogspot.com/2009/09/comparing-wholesale-micas-to-retail.html <- Pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter; one is paying for the image of the thing. Also, MAC's pigments have amazing texture. As so Aromaleigh's, on the cheap. I think I'll probably venture into learning how to press my Aromaleigh minerals here, shortly. I can decorate the heck out of a few palettes! I should take pictures of the awesome packaging I made for my makeups.

Date: 2009-10-22 07:45 am (UTC)I'm usually too lazy for black lipstick too. Well, any lipstick really.
Lime Crime's Styletto lipstick caught my eye too though. It's quite pricey, but if it has stayablity, it would definitely be worth it.
You rock the black lipstick, babe! Here's my attempt!
Whatcha think? You may have already seen that pic on my MySpace. It's ooold!
Back when I had my beloved black hair. D: I ought to try dying my tips!

Date: 2009-10-23 02:55 am (UTC)You have straight hair, so you could totally get some of the clip-in (http://www.manicpanic.biz/ct_CG10_humanhair-glamstrips_.htm) streaks and rock them!
Actually, they're one of the few companies that make CURLY ones... I want to get some different shades of pink and purple to mix it up a bit! <3

Date: 2009-10-24 03:27 am (UTC)Speaking of shadows, have you used Stila's Smudge Pots? I've been wanting to try them, as well as their Kajal Liner. (In black, of course. ;)
I've tried the clip-in streaks. They didn't do much for me, sadly.
(They're the purple ones I wore to the first karaoke meetup actually! XD)
They were synth ones though, and too short. If I get longer ones made with human hair, that may work!
I love your curly locks! <3

Date: 2009-10-23 05:38 am (UTC)... honestly, from the online photos, I think you'd be safer sticking to Manic Panic unless you really want a gloss. I wonder if new MP tastes okay; all of mine are ancient, too. (Although it seems to age better than a lot of old lipsticks, which I cannot STAND and throw away. I still cling to my moldy old tube of Pussy Galore pink.)
