Of tiny dogs and black lips

Oh goodness, my baby girl chihuahua is... very small. (We're probably going to go with Chloe, but I haven't completely decided yet.) Hansel definitely behaves like a chi, but his dachshund side makes him slightly more like a normal dog: a tiny bit sturdier, heavier, and more grounded. Chloe is all chihuahua. If Hansel is dainty and sometimes odd, she's dainty and odd concentrated --

She's the Chibiusa to Hansel's Sailormoon. A tiny little brat!

So we all know about MAC's Style Black collection, no? I know a few of us bought it already; I've seen [livejournal.com profile] ashbet rocking it in pictures!

While I've been miserly with my pennies so far, I must admit, I'm very tempted. I've always been somewhat lazy with my makeup and NEVER do touch-ups, which black lipstick rather demands -- I could learn, of course, but I hid behind my olive complexion and perkigoth status and figured I could just avoid black lips. After all, they (almost?) never costume Abby Scuito in black lipstick, and she looks consistently adorable. Yet The Lady of Manners over at Gothic Charm School wrote up a review (and defense of the black lip) which is weakening my resolve.

To make matters even bleaker, as it were, Lime Crime has a new lipstick line with Styletto black lippie, which looks delightfully pigmented. Doe Deere wore it to a goth wedding, so it's been gothically field-tested!

I dug out some of my Wet and Wild from three Halloween seasons ago...

So what do you think? Am I finally old and cosmetically versed enough to rock the black lip? (And if so, which products should I get?)

Bonus Out-take:

Kiss me, you fool

Chihuahuas have no concept of personal space.

It looks great, but I'd avoid LimeCrime only in that it's repackaged from another distributor (Stargazer for the lipstick specifically) with a significant markup:

Mmmmm, I honestly figured that -- I didn't quite, ahem, buy into the brand like some people do. (Because, really? Mineral makeup as new, special and unique? Maybe five years ago... cough. Also, you'll remember, I've been around the subculture for long enough to remember her first companies.)

But the lippie looked promising -- the packaging was adorable enough to tempt me into hearing what others have to say about it, wholesale or not. Although for $16 + $5 shipping?

Honestly?

I'm starting to think my $2 Halloween Black is actually pretty highly pigmented.

Also, MAC's pigments have amazing texture. As so Aromaleigh's, on the cheap. I think I'll probably venture into learning how to press my Aromaleigh minerals here, shortly. I can decorate the heck out of a few palettes! I should take pictures of the awesome packaging I made for my makeups.

(Actually, I could say a lot more about marketing oneself despite questionable product/content and my feelings on various attention bloggers with trendy colorschemes, but ah, you've heard it all before. And they always trackback links. But then, I've never been sparklie enough.)
