I had a vitamin D deficiency for nearly a year -- starting last year around the holidays. My oncologist put me on megadoses of Vitamin D (50,000 I.U.s) - one pill a week & I was monitored for 3 month intervals. Also I was told to drink/eat more dairy (ha ha ha ha -- not happening since I'm lactose intolerant), eat more broccoli (I think it tastes fine, but unfortunately, my stomach doesn't like it), sit out on the sunshine. So as of this past September ... my vitamin D count has finally leveled off -- now I just take Caltrate 600 twice a day.
Huh. I'd been avoiding dairy to see if it would help with other stuff, in addition to not going outside as much this summer. (I honestly think I'm one of the few people, even in my own family, who really ISN'T lactose intolerant, and no, cutting it out does not help anything. So I can drink it.) And I like broccoli.
Of course, I hear this as we're going into the coldest months -- but I'm going to soak up as much sunshine as possible before it snows!
