I wish there were something like the SCA for fantasy characters. You know, like a LARP, but without any actual gaming, because -- BIG SECRET -- I actually find the gaming part pretty boring. I like costuming, pretty much.

Wait... maybe I can go hang out with the Harry Potter people. It's not my favorite series ever -- not that I have anything against it, mind you, but blah blah blah male messiah wizard blah blah lacks firelizards blah blah -- but I bet they'll understand my wand fetish.

I have this deep, burning desire to simply dress like a cartoon witch. I don't particularly fangirl anything, I don't want to pretend to be a character, I just... like costumes. It's all I can do to keep my everyday attire from looking like something out of a Jill Thompson comic.

I'm pretty sure I've alienated and driven off most of the angsty steampunk people, but really, I do get the costuming bit. Mind, I don't like the aesthetic (and I don't get why people get offended by this: unrelieved brown and airships are simply not my thing) but it seems weird that some steampunks (steampunkers?) don't admit how very roleplay the hobby is... it's NOT a legitimate street fashion by any stretch of the imagination. It's costuming. And there's nothing wrong with costuming! But come now, anything that involves pretend weaponry = costume. Come oooooooooooooon. The best steampunk is done by the hardcore cosplayers, because they KNOW how to costume, and look damn good doing it.

Heh, come to think of it, historical costuming people have the opposite problem -- the lolitas were always jumping down their throats, "NOT LOLI ENOUGH!" "Uh, no; it's a costume." I think that's mostly resolved itself now, though.

I'm going to start my Witch Fashion trend. It's not like I'm sitting here wearing a jumper dress, a cape, and a crow skull necklace or anything. Where DO the Harry Potter people hang out?

Or, you could just dress like a cartoon witch for no reason. I know! I know! You like categorizing personalities more than I do. But. Upon reading your post, I realized that I'm starting to dress a bit like a cartoon witch myself (or a cartoon third world revolutionary--that would be credited to the stompy black Docs and the beret)

Of course, there's always landhausmode.  I just checked the Angermaier site, to find a specific example of how it can all come together--this one was what I was thinking--but, then I saw the newer stuff.  The Freigeist collection.  Totenkopf- und Edelweiß, check, check, and check.  If you poke 'round the site proper, you can find skulls'n'pretzels'n'edelweiss.  And, ooh, ooh, isn't some of the footwear quite witchy?  (These are kinda mindbending.)

Um! I think I do, actually! But I think I could ride my charisma and success... Mahou-Girl fashion... mwahahaha...

Oh dear, I think you've nailed it. Viva la revolution!

Unnnnggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I want dirndl... maybe once I'm skinny, I can figure out how to order one! I need a solid black, though. I love novelty prints, but I finally have come to terms with the fact I do not wear novelty prints very often.
