Role models

So I've been looking at pictures of Helena Bonham Carter to convince myself I'll look okay thin. I mean, really -- deep-set eyes with dark circles, brunette snakes for hair, dresses messily, like she pulled her clothes from a big pile but they're all frilly and black so it's okay -- that's exactly me, isn't it?

Helena has a pair of signature weird mary janes I've admired, and apparently, they're comfort shoes. Article and photo here -- check out her cute outfit! Squee! They're comfort shoes, they go up to 11s, and apparently there's a dealer in Northern Virginia, not far from where my friend Viv lives.

Um.... I think the gods of slovenly black fashion are trying to tell me something.

There's a Z-Coil dealer in Nashville--the ads are on during local news a lot. I have seen exactly one person wearing them in public (although they make hidden coil versions, too)

Heyguesswhatguesswhat? I acquired a gigantic pot (thanks to Freecycle) which I have already used to overdye some things purple, and shall be moving on to black soon. You're my dying inspiration. *nods*

I must own them! I will report on my findings. Most people, I imagine, are too chicken.

WOOT! I've been gearing up to try to smash out an article -- if you make any great dying breakthroughs, let me know the results! Overdying is addictive, though... my poor washer. *cackles* I've finally done most of the things in my house! (Although, of course, after the last big load, I found a few tiny things, like hankies, I'd intended to dye. Oh well -- next one.)

My main dying quibble so far is WHY WON'T BROWN COTTON THINGS TURN BLACK INSTEAD OF REALLY REALLY DARK BROWN????? Grar. I may have to have a dying session just to re-overdye a brown skirt with multi-earthtone-color embroidery that I know would look fabulous as a black skirt with black embroidery WHY WON'T YOU LISTEN TO ME SKIRT AND TURN BLACK INSTEAD OF STUBBORNLY REMAINING BROWN AND STOP YOUR SNICKERING BROWN PLAID SHIRT THAT STILL HAS VISIBLE PLAIDINESS DESPITE THE BLACK DYE AND AAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH. Yeah.

...I just realized they're both made in India, although that probably means nothing to the dye.

Those shoes are REALLY cool, and she's really a good role model to have, too.

I'll report back if they're actually comfy! I must save up and own a pair of Helena maryjanes! <3
