Don't put crap on my cellphone, please

Okay, I must confess: I love modern design. The baroque-modern fusion makes my heart flutter because it's monochrome, but actual baroque is too much for me. I like clean lines, polished surfaces, and limited color palettes. Not even mid-century; I love modern modern.

So I pretty much abhor deco.

Art nouveau! Also kind of overdone on comic covers! But 80% of that is just Strangers in Paradise, soooo...

I kind of want the one Hindenburg ashtray (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/archive/200605A20.html) they had on, but mostly because it's hilarious and I could sell it to the steampunks.

(That's the one I was on, but the wrong hour! I still haven't managed to see myself!)

I actually have a crap-ton of actual Victorian Stuff... it's less thrilling when you're surrounded by it. I also must annoy preservationists, because being surrounded by antiques, my choices are 1. to carefully preserve and not use it and basically throw it away or 2. use it and risk damage. But you know what? MUSEUMS DON'T ACTUALLY WANT EVERY OLD THING FROM THE PAST! I WORKED IN THEM! Oh ho ho ho... what were we talking about?

Having and using Victorian stuff is kinda of back to the Martha Stewart Good Thing thing--have and use what you consider the best you can get. Sorta. Maybe?

And the latter sentiment is related to the THIS OLD TOY MUST BE WORTH SOMETHING BECAUSE IT'S AN OLD TOY AND OLD TOYS ARE WORTH SOMETHING mindset. Unresearched people are funny.
